For starters, surgery creates severe trauma and for some people it's like being in a terrible auto accident.
For a better outcome, it is important that your body be in the best physical shape than it has been in for a long time.
How do you do that?
If you put the same amount of weight on a knee after surgery that you have now, you are asking a lot of that knee and the outcome may be iffy. In fact, a large percentage of people do have knee pain continuing after surgery so prevention and preparation for surgery is vital.
FIRST: Return to the best weight you were in your entire life and don't schedule until you get to that weight. Losing one pound of weight reduces four pounds of weight that the knee has to carry.
SECOND: Eat an anti-inflammatory diet. Inflammatory foods will cause inflammation and pain systemically.
Stop all sugar
Eliminate all dairy
Don't eat after 6 o'clock
Have an Organic protein shake once or twice a day and two large salads with at least 5 vegetables in each. Zucchini, tomatoes, avocado, red bell pepper, onion, olives, spinach, Romaine, etc.with lemon juice and olive oil.
Get good sleep.
These tips will help to normalize your blood pressure and perhaps reduce medications.
Take a fish oil cap to reduce inflammation.
Eliminate bread, beef and use only a small amount of chicken in your salads Wild caught salmon is great.
Get your spinal alignment checked by a gentle activator chiropractor and avoid manipulating chiropractic. Correct Spinal Alignment is critical to avoid listing which can cause knee and back pain to be worse.
Exercise as much as you are able. Even some of my back injury patients can do up on the knees pushups to raise heart rate. If you have knee surgery, take it easy and avoid leg extensions.
